Has anyone read this book? If so, what did you think of it?
Me... I kinda was put off by the idea of Rommel having a gay younger brother but after reading a few chapters, I grew accustomed to the idea. Lemme just say that Erwin's final minutes are more tear-inspiring than any non-fiction book out there on that subject. The author (i have forgotten her name) knew how to write some scenes to make you laugh or choke up with sadness when you should.
The book takes Rommels part in the plot and gives it a new twist. Rather than he being deeply involved as everyone is led to believe, Lucie is the real conspirator and her husband is only helping to support her. His sacrifice becomes even more noble with that tidbit.
One thing though, when the American soldier bashed in Pfirsch knees I was like "You bastard! Erwin is going to get you now!" I think this was before Kessering Pass too. Been awhile since I read the book.
The author doesn't detail any sexual content nor does she write the whole book about it. She just leaves it open for you to figure it out when such scenes pop up. Its very tastefully done.
My only dislike with the book is that she wrote in todays politics. It isnt much but it's there. I just wish author's wouldn't do that. I buy a book to enjoy and escape real life, I don't want to be reminded of how screwed up our world is.

I've heard of this book before, but I've never read it. It did sound very funny, though: too bad it's not at the local Borders/Barnes and Noble. Verdammt. I didn't know about that plot twist with Lucie, though! HAHA. ...*ponders*... Y'know... And is it a graphic novel or a novel novel? I know that the author (forgot her name too) had a long-running comic about Pfirsch, but I wasn't sure if Bread and Swans was graphic or not. Hmm, how did she manage to make a political statement about today? I haven't heard that before...I'm curious now. ^^

Is there an excerpt online anywhere? Last time I ordered books from Amazon they took seven weeks to get here and about seven months to get through customs. Not good when they are textbooks!
