My ! That's awesome ! I had never seen some of these pictures. I love the Monty one... easy, uh ? tsssk - overconfident, my gear general. At the end of the second last, he looked like he had a headache, poor fox. But he really does have a foxy smile. I wish I could download these !

That is extremely cool. I've only had time to see a few, but that's more footage of Rommel than I've seen in a long time. I wonder if there's a site that has a recording of his voice. I've always wondered what he sounded like.

Good question. I'd like to hear his voice too... (maybe Wingy could ask Manfred on his way to Herrlingen, this summer ?) I'll do a research on the net, although I highly doubt it's possible to find it...

I know, I was just thinking about that too. Hopefully it's not all squeaky like Patton's. *shudders*

I did said research, but found nothing so far. I don't think his voice would be squeaky, but not very very deep either. Something in between, I'd say.

I've always imagined that too...

From books I've read, I kind of always had the impression that it might have been a bit rough. I did read somewhere that he had a very good parade grounds voice.

In his journals (I've read extracts a website published, only in French unfortunately) he said his voice was all hoarse because he was shouting orders the whole day...

You read about Rommel on German newsreels and such. I wonder if any of those survived the war? I know a few did, but I haven't found any with him speaking.

On the other hand, that also means we can pretty much imagine it's however we want it to be...

Imagination is always a good thing; keeps the Desert Fox a bit mysterious. And mystery is always fun too. Guess that's why we like "what if" scenarios so much.

Yeah, that's fun to think about all these possibilities (parallel universes... nyuhuhuh...) However, when I showed my Fox on the Rhine novel to my mother, she said she wasn't very interested in that kind of scenarios. I'm still pondering whether it was a clever way not to embarass herself trying to read in english...

I've heard his voice once before. It's not rough or deep but its not squeeky either. It is a bit high-pitched but still masculine. You need to search for propaganda reels on the North Africa campaign. You might find it that way. The one I heard him from he was speaking about the Suez-Canal goal.
