SO excited right now. Our library is hosting a shelter-a-shelf program to get some books out of the way while they complete renovations, so basically you can go and pick out however many books you can carry and bring them home for TWO YEARS.
So, my mom and I headed into the library, told the librarian what we wanted, and she handed us two large boxes and explained the rules--take whatever you want, any section, any size, just not the ones with green or orange tape on the bindings. It sounded simple enough, so I headed off for The Favourite Section (guess what) in search of The Rommel Murder. I was pretty excited, because I figured, it can't have green or orange tape on the binding, only I check it out.
I get there, can't find it, look up the call number again (I've memorised it now, 940.542 Marshall, in case you're wondering), and find it. But what do I see on the binding? (GASP!) Green tape!
Well, I very nearly ripped it off, but instead stood there making choking noises and grinding my teeth for a few minutes while the elderly chap next to me reading a book about Patton (ideal time, naturally) stared at me curiously.
However...I have successfully cleaned out about half the library. I think they owe me a medal or something. *sighs* Just no Rommel books, specifically, just several about North Africa and a few about Normandy, which I judged the quality of by seeing if they had Hans' name in the index because he was actually in charge of all the Seventh Army at the time of the invasion, not Erwin, who was partying back home with Lucie and Manfred. Some historians are under the impression Erwin was leading the German defensive all by himself when he was eating cake in Germany...but it was all Hans...*is mad that he gets no credit*
And I saw several good alternate history books, most of which having green tape, but oh well. Here's one for you, DS--it's called The Great War: Walking In Hell, but it's about the United States and the Confederate States of America (the South having won the Civil War) choosing sides in WWI. The US is with Germany, the CSA with the Allies. (?) *hates green tape*
