Merry Christmas, all! So, I'm dying to know...what did everyone else get? Because I totally lucked out. *grins*
My absolute favourite present... HANS' BOOK!
Yes! Not kidding! My grandparents gave me one of the fifty-odd English copies known to still exist from Amazon! It's called Invasion 1944: Rommel and the Normandy Campaign, and it rocks. (Actually, to tell the truth, Erwin was a better writer...but oh well!)
My grandparents also got me Himmler's Secret War: The Covert Peace Negotiations of Heinrich Himmler, funnily enough. That was a tad awkward, unwrapping the lovely hardcover with a large picture of the Reichsfuhrer SS on the front and hugging my grandma for it, buuut...oh well. ;D
And then my dad, bless 'im, got me two books by Derek Robinson, the author of Piece of Cake (the TV show I was ranting about is based off of his book) including Piece of Cake the book, which I couldn't find anywhere...

Hmm, I didn't even really know that he had a book. I know he wrote some stuff...Yet another book to hunt down. But I love hunting books, so that shouldn't be a problem. Might have trouble getting an English version, though. Hehehe, did they take a picture of you with your grandma and the Himmler book? I bet that would make a good conversation photo. Okay, my haul... Well, my favorite would have to be the Rising Tide. It's a fine big book and I'm trying to hold back, read slowly, and savor it all, but it's hard. I'm naturally a speed reader. I have read the first few Rommel chapters though... ;D Very good, just like I was expecting Shaara to write so far. I also got The Rommel Papers, which are turning out to be very interesting. It'll be good research for the other parts of this forum. In one letter, he actually tells Lucy that he's been getting fan mail from "amorous" females. I wonder if she steamed a little or took it all in good fun. Probably good fun. Not much else Rommel, but I did get a very interesting book on Robert E. Lee that isn't in print anymore. It's a collection of his letters and writings. Other than my immediate family, I think my relatives believe me odd for wanting history books for Christmas. Oh well...

The Rommel Papers! Yay! Best book ever! (I think I still owe my mom twenty-five dollars for that one, though...) And The Rising Tide! Lucky. My grandpa got that one for Christmas, and I...um...'borrowed' it for a while during Christmas dinner. I finished early and managed to sneak away from the table so I could read a few Rommel chapters. Not bad at all. But I made my grandpa promise to send it to me when he was done, so he gave me a few Tom Clancy books to tide me over until he's finished. *paws moodily through Cold War thrillers*
Ooh, what was the book about Lee? My dad could probably send you tons--I told you guys he's a historian, right? And he specialises in the Civil War era--as our entire study is absolutely packed with Civil War books. Wait, let me go count them.
*eyetwitch* Heheh. 93. Not counting the ones in the attic. Oh, wait--Stonewall by Byron Farwell is sitting on the table next to the shelf.

Gaaaah you all got books ! Why didn't I ? Hum, that might be because there were so many I wanted, and I never bothered to put them in priority order, so... uh. Guess I'll have to buy them myself. Good thing I received some money. So what did I get for Christmas ? Well, we didn't celebrate all that much, truth to be told, since there was only my mother and brother, and then we went to see my uncle and aunt, but well. At any rate, I got a jewel and... *sweatdrop* nailscissors. Yeah. Seriously. And I do know how weird it sounds And for my birthday, I got that scanner... well, I got to order it, actually (I'm still waiting for it to arrive), so I'll finally be able to scan and post my drawings ! I have three Rommel drawings I wanted to post.

A scanner??? Oh goody goody goody, one goody for each picture I'm anticipating. I can't wait for these pics. Sorry I haven't put up any recently, I've been really busy too. I could put up some pen and ink zebras and a tiger though, if my scanner is feeling cooperative. I absolutely love pen and ink, the scanner doesn't lose any of the shading. The thing is, if you make one mistake, there goes the whole ball game. So what are your Rommel pictures about? I'm very curious.

My Rommel pics are about Mount Mataiur and the whole dictionary ordeal. I still have to add the dialogues, but I'll do that on the computer. I've done some inking too, but for safety reasons I drew first with a pen, then I inked the drawing, so I was less likely to make a mistake. But the result is really worth it. It's pretty hard to ink well. The shading, especially, is kinda tricky. If you wanna ship me Rommel books... well, I won't say no
