...-sneaks back in- What do we have here...? Could it be Wing, your long-lost Rommelteer admin? ...yes. Yes, it could. xD Hi guys, I've missed you all terribly - I don't know who and what's active here at the moment, but hell, I've randomly bothered to come back and hope to stay for a while. I'm sorry for my disappearance/lack of communication, especially to Qual and DS, who've been here for so long and are good friends, but you know how it is - new interests have come along, life's kept me busy, and for a long time I've been focused on other things. I saw Valkyrie Sunday night and started feeling awfully nostalgic...so here I am. Cheers, newbs.

Ah, welcome back. I've been here on and off for quite a while, randomly checking in. We all get sidetracked on many things. For me, it was college (I can't believe I'm halfway done), artwork, and Phantom of the Opera.I'm still reading WWII books like crazy though. My last ones were a collections of writings, Hitler's Generals, and What They Knew, a study and cataloging of the German people's knowledge of the treatment of Jews. Very interesting first-hand accounts. I saw Valkyrie this afternoon, and actually didn't think Cruise messed it up horribly like all the reviews said. However, that's his only movie that I've seen, so I have no history of that actor. From what I know, they did a decent job factually, with a bit of dramatization. And of course, I was dreadfully disappointed that Rommel never showed up... Why? Why? (However, there is a new WWII movie scheduled for January, "Defiance.")

Yeaaaaaaaaaaah people Well, actually, I was happy Rommel wasn't showing up. The only thing worse than habing Cruise as Stauffenberg would be Cruise as Rommel. But don't worry. When my novels will have sold by the billion, I'll make a film out of my uchronia with a top budget and Rommel will be at least in half the scenes ! (Well yeah, first I've to end the novel before... and begin the uchronia... end finish it... gah, too much efforts here)

*gasps* Are these a couple of ghosts standing in front of me?! Or is it possible our long-lost founders have returned from the dead? *faints* Hehe, anyways welcome back.

*bows to DS and Wing* I am not worthy. Well, not yet. I hope this means that interesting "Untitled" Hans and Erwin in jail story will be updated soon. You're right Kalendeer: The only thing Tom Cruise and Rommel have in common is being short! If only James Mason had been in a film about Rommel's entire career. I suppose it wasn't "politically correct" to do that. it probably wouldn't be now, if people's reactions are any measure: I say that I like Rommel and they look at me very strangely. (The image is from a comic entry at my journal.)

The link to your journal doesn't appear to be functioning, just so you know. I always thought Ed Harris would make a good Rommel. Have you seen him in Enemy at the Gates? Rommel and Harris actually have similar facial features and Ed Harris would be the right age. Most of the recent actors I've seen playing Rommel have been too old.

Another good try would be Daniel Craig. He does not look so much like Rommel but is a very good actor (when he is not playing Bond, that is) and would suit right for a 40-aged Rommel : Here, as an Oberst or Leutnant-Oberst (I couldn't see the shoulders right enough to figure out) : Daniel Craig : With the right uniform and aircut, I'm sure he would manage quite well.

But then I'd spend the whole time expecting him to turn around and say "Bond...James Bond." ;D Some roles are just so iconic that even the actors can't totally escape them. Like Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith for instance.

Hugo Weaving = Elrond... when i saw Matrix, i was waiting for him to make some great lecture. "Mr Anderson... you must carry the ring into Mordor..."

HAHAHAHA oh my God, yes! ;D That happened to me when I first saw The Matrix, except I kept expecting him to start saying "I was THERE, three THOUsand years ago" (which is, IMHO, one of Elrond's most memorable lines).
However, for me at least, the absolute worst actor, whom I can never see out of context, is when Alan Rickman (I think) plays anyone BUT Snape. It just...doesn't work. For example I once saw him playing the really cool and awesome Colonel from Sense and Sensibility, and I nearly had to turn off the movie, it was just so strange...
