I wanna be Faramir ! And I can do Boro as well, since there are quite a few characters. We can leave the guys with the pointy ears to Wing, so that would be Lego, Elladan and Elro, right ? Well, seems like DS gets the honour to start it all from Gandalf's pov...

Okay, here are the new stats. I'll take on Denethor and Halbarad then. I'll start it up then after I do a bit more studying on the situation. I'll try to type up Gandalf's adventure in Gondor, for the characters Denethor and his two kids. Should we involve any of those other characters, or just see if they show up?
Aragorn - Qual Gandalf - DS Gollum - Wing Denethor - DS Legolas - Wing Boromir - Qual Faramir - Qual Halbarad - DS Elrohir - Wing Elladan - Wing
And possibilities
Thranduil, king elf of Mirkwood - ? Elrond - ? Original characters - ?

Yeah, I'm tented to introduce a new character, although I might not use his pov... But I think I'll wait a bit until we have started to write the story.

Fine with me, that way it's surprising. And just think, you might be surprising Gandalf. Who knows where this story might go while still in Tolkien's timeline? Fun fun

Maybe tonight even, but anyway...I've been working on the first post, and it's come out to be about 1000 words. It's probably the longest post I'll do, but since it's the beginning, I put in some background according to the book.
I suppose we're doing the imagery like the movies, right? Mentally picturing the characters like they appear on screen? Obviously the plot is book-verse.

Here follows the account of Gandalf's trip to Gondor.
The Council of Elrond, Fellowship of the Ring Page 245-6
“…The Ring itself might tell if it were the one. The memory of words at the council came back to me: words of Saruman, half-heeded at the time. I heard them now clearly in my heart. “‘The Nine, the Seven, and the Three,’ he said, ‘each had their proper gem. Not so the One. It was round and unadorned, as it were one of the lesser rings; but its maker set marks upon it that the skilled, maybe, could still see and read.’ “What those marks were he had not said. Who now would know? The maker. And Saruman? But great though his lore may be, it must have a source. What hand save Sauron’s ever held this thing, ere it was lost? The hand of Isildur alone. “With that thought, I forsook the chase (-for Gollum-), and passed swiftly to Gondor. In former days the members of my order had been well received there, but Saruman most of all. Often he had been for long the guest of the Lords of the City. Less welcome did the Lord Denethor show me than of old, and grudgingly he permitted me to search among his hoarded scrolls and books. “’If indeed you look only, as you say, for records of ancient days, and the beginnings of the City, read on,’ he said. ‘For to me what was is less dark than what is to come, and that is my care. But unless you have more skill even than Saruman, who has studied here long, you will find naught that is not well known to me, who am master of the lore of this City.’ “So said Denethor. And yet there lie in his hoards many records that few now can read, even of the loremasters, for their scripts and tongues have become dark to later men.”
Gandalf finds the scrolls about the finding of the One Ring by Isildur, and the test of fire, and the firewritings.
“When I read these words, my quest was ended. For the traced writing was indeed as Isildur guessed, in the tongue of Mordor and the servants of the Tower. And what was said therein was already known…At once I took my leave of Denethor…”
And that's when he learns Aragorn has Gollum, so he goes to Mirkwood.
