Okay, this is what I came up with...
The Desert Foxhole [Hopefully] Annual Creative Contest
THE DEAL:
1. Pick at least one idea from the list of writing ideas and at least one from the art ideas.
2. Complete the challenge.
3. Whoever gets in one piece of writing and one piece of artwork by the end of February wins a prize! (i.e. a beautiful new customised signature by me, your dear Wing)
Story Scenarios:
1. Erwin (and an escort of your choice) shows up in your home/workplace/school. Write your initial reaction, and what you do next.
2. Describe the battle of Kasserine Pass in first person from Erwin’s point of view. I quote Wikipedia: “Many called this ‘the battle where the amateurs met the professionals’.” (heh)
3. Write a brief story, no more than three pages, about when the Gestapo told Hans, as a prisoner, that Erwin was dead. (And if it isn’t heartbreakingly sad, I may become upset)
4. Remember when Erwin and some staff officers walked into a New Zealand field hospital in North Africa by mistake? Write that scene from anyone’s point of view.
5. We need a story strictly about Lucie. Period. It can have some elements of the Desert Fox, but it must be first-person Lucie. So there. No getting around that. HA.
6. Gertrude, Erwin’s illegitimate daughter, is always told how much she looks like that famous Field Marshal Rommel. One day, she passes him in the street…and finish the story!
7. Hans decides to keep a journal of the days leading up to the Normandy campaign, one that begins when his commanding officer sends three rather enthusiastic guards to wake him up when he misses a four-AM conference. [CLAIMED—WING]
8. Patton writes a letter to Rommel. You may include US Army censors, because they’ll probably be necessary.
9. Italian gunners everywhere receive an erroneous report stating that all German Storchs are to be shot down on sight. What will poor Erwin the Flying Fox do?
10. After the death of his mother, Manfred Rommel is sorting through her personal possessions and finds an old envelope addressed to him in his father’s hand and dated the day of his death. What’s inside it?
11. Erwin Rommel has a conversation with himself about the Jewish situation, Germany's future, and his own sworn oath to obey his Fuhrer.
Art Ideas:
1. Illustrate your story idea.
2. A realistic portrait of Erwin, any media. [CLAIMED--DS]
3. A realistic portrait of Lucie, any media.
4. A realistic portrait of Erwin AND Lucie, pencil sketch. [CLAIMED--WING]
5. A portrait (realistic or otherwise oooh) of the Rommel family, any media. (The Rommels as foxes! YAY!)
6. Erwin spotting a desert fox through his binoculars and his reaction, any media.
7. Erwin and his officers (any group of staff will do) having a party, pencils! [CLAIMED--QUAL]
8. Pastels or paint, anything and extra points. o.O
9. The Desert Foxholians huddled in a trench waiting to pounce on Erwin when he walks by, pencils or ink.
10. Sketch or, if you’re feeling brave, a painting of Erwin that illustrates a sort of WWI-WWII transformation.
