Anybody read it? (Besides 'Patty'?)
You see, I went to Borders last night with the other person who's supposed to be joining soon *frowns in her direction*...
AND IT WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!
I was SO excited. Like foaming at the mouth excited. I have looked EVERYWHERE for the bloody book, and outside Amazon I thought it was no longer in existence--but it is, and it's at my local bookstore!
*dances*
Only problem was, my dad hadn't paid me for mowing the lawn, and I had no money on me, having blown it all at the movies an hour before. My friend's parents actually offered to buy it for me (I very nearly accepted too) but I didn't want to be rude, so I've decided I'm going to go get it today. Never mind the fact that I've already read a third of it at the bookstore last night. Manfred's introduction is quite nice, I may have to quote it...

Lol ! I guess Borders is the name of your local bookstore I went to a bookstore too this week end, called Gibert, which is a place where you can find rare, old, and secondhand books, but there wasn't anything about Rommel. I did however get a pretty nice fantasy book in english, 1 euro (guess there aren't too much people wanting to buy books in english... all the better for me). The only little problem for you is that you'll have to tell us about the book once you've read it... hehehe.

I read quite a few bits and chunks of it, but never straight through. You lucky dog! It was at your bookstore? Yeah, Qual, Borders is one of America's many big bookstores. It's actually a national chain. There's it and Barnes-and-Nobles, Books-a-Million, Waldenbooks, a whole bunch of them. Say, yes, what about that other person joining? I'm curious now. Hope we didn't scare her off...We are rather scary...
So have you gotten the book yet?

Barnes and Noble ? I've heard that name somewhere... Aaah yes, that's it - today, englishness course (yeah, weird name, I know). And I take it "lucky dog" is an American expression, innit ? The meaning is pretty obvious, I think...

Yeah, it means the speaker really envies the person he's talking to, I think. I got to go to Barnes and Nobles this week, but stupid me, I forgot to check for Jeff Shaara's new WW2 book, The Rising Tide. It deals with the war in Africa. My favorite author writing about Rommel, whoo-hoo! (And I forgot to check the shelves for it, grumble, grumble, grumble...)

My, my ^^ Why is Shaara your favourite author ? What did he write ? Is his book like a documentary, or more fiction-like ?

He writes historical fiction, except he uses the real historical characters, and so very often he writes them like you think they would actually talk, act, and speak. His civil war series is my favorite by far. It's kind of like a history book, with maps and stuff, but written fiction style and really engrossing. The way he writes the battle scenes too is amazing. I believe Norman Schwarzkopf called Shaara's Killer Angels book the best novel on war that he'd ever read.

You mean you didn't do that on purpose ? I'm gonna call you Yoda from now on. Either that, or My Little Green Friend...

What, don't you like Yoda ? I mean, okay, he's green, and... and... well, small, and he talks weird, but he's a powerful (jumping) experienced (senile) jedi master (annoying tibetan monk).
Hum, well, of course, compared to Thrawn... he does look kinda outwitted...

So is Thrawn your favorite Star Wars character? Boy, am I off-topic.

Well, me too... never mind. Yeah, Thrawn's my favourite. When I went to Sweden, my Swedish friend was a Vador-fan to the bones, and she said she couldn't understand me. She : "How can you like him ? He's blue !" Me : "But he's so bright !" She : "But he's *blue* !" What about you ? No, let me guess... Yoda ?
